Boat Transportation to Nantucket

Plan Sea Adventure Charters does indeed offer private boat transportation to Nantucket and other destinations including: Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod (Falmouth area), Cuttyhunk and other destinations. These boat trips are completely customized for your group and schedule.

Now that the direct ferry service from Martha’s Vineyard to Nantucket has ended, the only way to make a day trip to Nantucket is by hiring a boat or plane. Personally, I’ve never taken a plane over, but I’m sure it’s fast and I definitely would like someday to take the bi-plane over and do some loops and other aerobatics on the way over.

This is a description of what you can expect if you decide to hire of boat for transportation to Nantucket. Plan Sea often transports groups of 6 or less between Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard for the day. Typically we get an early start and leave the dock between 8-9:00am so that the party has enough time to explore. We get everyone settled on board and briefed on safety procedures. Children 12 and under are required to wear personal floatation devices(PFD’s) while on board. We can provide these with advance notice or you may provide your own. You’re also encouraged to bring snacks, drinks, windbreaker and anything else you may need for your trip. We provide bottled water and cooler space.

On the way over we pass the Edgartown Lighthouse, the Poge Lighthouse (Chappaquiddick) and the Brant Point Lighthouse(Nantucket).  Between Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard is a very large grey seal colony. In the winter months over 2000 seals colonize Muskeget Island. Most groups want to take a short detour to visit the seals. These curious seals look like swimming Labrador retrievers from a distance, but often approach the boat within 8 feet. Many times Captain Dave will give youngsters a turn at the wheel and give them boating lessons if they’re interested.

We typically cruise at about 20-28 MPH. The trip between Edgartown and Nantucket Harbors is approximately 25 miles and it takes around 1 hour 20-30 minutes. The boat has a marine toilet on board and the deck can be enclosed during less than favorable weather. Plan Sea also has advanced electronics on board including sonar, radar, iPod equipped stereo and marine radio.

The boat transportation to Nantucket cost includes stand-by time for up to 5 hours and dockage.
